Indian women’s cricket team locked horns with England in the semi-final at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur decided to bat first after winning the toss at Edgbaston. Batting first, Indian girls posted a total of 164 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Later on, the hosts fell four runs short of the target and could score only 160 runs for the loss of six wickets in the complete 20 overs. India has now entered the final of the CWG 2022 where they will face either the Australian women’s cricket team or New Zealand for the gold medal.

Indian fans have also reacted to this win of women in blue in the first-ever event of women’s cricket in the history of the Commonwealth Games.

Smriti Manadhana played a match-defining knock for the Indian women's cricket team

The opening pair of senior batter Smriti Mandhana and young batter Shafali Verma provided a strong start for the Indian team. They both made a partnership of 76 runs for the first wicket in just 7.5 overs. Mandhana played a brilliant knock of 61 runs off just 32 balls with eight boundaries and three sixes to her name.

Other than Mandhana, number three batter Jemimah Rodrigues played a commendable knock of 44 runs off 31 balls with seven boundaries. With the help of these brilliant knocks and few short cameos, India posted a decent total of 164 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Freya Kemp scalped two wickets for the England team by conceding 22 runs in her three overs.

Chasing the target, England batters played quite well, skipper Nat Sciver and wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones played the fine knocks of 41 and 31 runs respectively. But still, the English team fell short of the target and they lost the match by four runs to get eliminated from the tournament.
