Virat Kohli had a great outing against Gujarat Titans (GT) on 21 May 2023 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He notched up his seventh IPL ton also. But, it went in vain as GT managed a successful chase in just 19.1 overs with six wickets in the bag. But, while fielding, Kohli looked uncomfortable after taking a catch.
The incident happened after he completed the catch of Vijay Shankar. After that, he was also seen leaving the field. So, fans were worried as it could affect his participation for Team India in the upcoming World Test Championship final. During the post-match press conference, RCB head coach, Sanjay Bangar provided an update regarding that.
“But I don't think there is anything serious.” - Sanjay Bangar
Bangar said: "Yeah, he had a bit of a niggle in his knee. But I don't think there is anything serious. Having scored two back-to-back hundreds within a gap of 4 days. He is somebody who not only wants to contribute with the bat but even when he is fielding. He did a lot of running around. 40 overs a couple of days ago and today, for 35 overs he was on the field. He was giving his best. So it is going to bother at some point but I don't think it's anything serious." Virat Kohli smashed two back-to-back centuries in IPL 2023.
However, Kohli finished the tournament with 639 runs in 14 games, at an average of 53.25 and a strike rate of 139.82. Apart from two centuries, he smashed six fifties. Speaking of the match, RCB batted first and scored 197 runs for five wickets in 20 overs, courtesy of Kohli’s 101* runs off 61 balls. In reply, GT chased down the target in 19.1 overs with six wickets in the bag. Gill won the Player of the Match award for scoring 104* runs off 52 balls, including five fours and eight sixes. His knock helped GT to reach 20 points while also helping MI to get qualified for the fourth spot in playoffs.
