Here's how India can still reach the final of the World Test Championship

The Indian team is still in the race to the final of the World Test Championship 2023. They ended up as the runners-up. Recently, England’s 2-1 win in the three-match Test series against South Africa has made the competition interesting. Although, this series win hasn’t had that much impact on England’s position in the points table in the Test championship.

The English team is already out of the race to the finals along with Bangladesh and the reigning champions New Zealand. But this defeat has cost a spot for the Proteas team in the table as they have been dropped to number two. They have a percentage of points at 60 whereas the Australian side is on the top with 82 points and a percentage (PCT) of 70.

Talking about the Indian team, then they are number four with a lower PCT of 52.08. Keeping that in mind, it can be said that their path to the final is quite tough. Although, they have pointed out more than South Africa.

They only have six Test matches to play before the commencement of the final at the Lord’s Stadium in London.

In the inaugural edition of the WTC, the Indians lost to the Kiwis in the final of the tournament. Now, they will be eyeing on to find another chance to win the title for the first time in the history of the game.

Rohit Sharma & co are scheduled to play four-match Test series against Australia and then a two-match clash against Bangladesh before the current cycle of WTC ends. Indians will have to win all the remaining matches to make their chances strong to make it to the finals of the tournament.

If India wins all the games, then it will also be a setback for the Aussies because India will have a stronger chance to be in the final.

Discussing the scenario for Australia, then they are in a very better position to reach the title clash of the tournament. They are currently on the top with a PCT of 70 and have nine games with them.

Australians are scheduled to play nine more games before the final. This itinerary includes the home series against West Indies and the three-match home series against South Africa ahead of their tour to India.
