Thursday came as a disappointing day for Pakistan cricket lost their second consecutive match in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 and that too against the minnows like Zimbabwe. Now the chances of Pakistan getting into the semis are very slim on a practical now. And, fans are also in a conundrum about the qualification of the men in green into the top four.
The Pakistani bowling attack, riding on the brilliant performance of young pacer Mohammad Wasim restricted the Zimbabweans only to the score of 130 runs for the loss of eight wickets. But the batting lineup of Babar’s men collapsed drastically that eventually happened to cost them a humiliating defeat of one run in a nail-biting thriller.
So, here we’ll have a look at the scenarios for Pakistan to make a cut to the semi-finals of the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup.
Here’re a few situations which may lead Pakistan to the semis:
Currently, Pakistan is in the fifth spot in the points table of Group 2. Their arch-rivals India is on the top of the leaderboard with two consecutive wins against Pakistan themselves followed by the Netherlands on the same day when Pakistan lost to Zimbabwe.
1. Pakistan is now on the edge of being knocked out of the tournament, so they need to win all their remaining three matches with a good margin. It will earn them a total of six points. Although, the chances of Pakistan we are talking about are possible mathematically it seems practically hard and unlikely to happen.
2. Pakistan hopes for India’s win in all the remaining games against South Africa, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe. Apart from the men in green will also have to pray that the Proteas lost two out of their remaining three games against India, Pakistan, and the Netherlands. And the similar is required in the case of Zimbabwe for whom Pakistan is supposed to hope the former lose two out of the remaining three matches against India, Netherlands, and Bangladesh.
