Former legendary Indian skipper and current president of the Indian Cricket Board, Sourav Ganguly is in the media headlines for the last couple of days for reasons other than his presidentship in the BCCI. Actually, the former southpaw will be seen in action during the one-off charity match in an honor of the 75th independence day of India.

Earlier, the fans praised Ganguly for removing former South African batter Herschelle Gibbs as he took part in the controversial T20 league which was organized in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Recently, he is again on the receiving end of both praises and taunts for another reason.

The fans have reacted on Twitter to Ganguly’s gesture ahead of the charity match. Whereas some of the fans went on to take a dig over it.

The 50-year-old has cleared that he is not going to charge any money for this match between former legends of the game. He also decided this to avoid any rift or conflict of interests during the match.

Speaking on this gesture from former Indian captain, CEO of Legends League Cricket, Raman Raheja has informed about the probable reason for this.

“No, Sourav Ganguly is not charging anything for this match. This is a special match dedicated to the 75th year of independence,” said Raheja to MyKhel.com.

Notably, Ganguly is busy in the preparations for this one-off special match in which India Maharajas will lock horns with the World Giants. World cup finalist captain of India will lead the India Maharajas whereas the former world champion skipper of England, Eoin Morgan will be the captain of the World Giants in this match.

India’s iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata will host this match on the 16th of September, 2022, next month.

Ganguly has also posted photos of his training sessions, he captioned the post on social media as, “Enjoying the training to get ready to play for one-off charity fundraising game for azadi ka mahatsov..75 years of Indian independence and also for women empowerment with the top legends of the legends league cricket @llct20 need to hit some cricket balls soon.”
