The ongoing Mumbai vs Gujarat game in the inaugural Women's T20 League 2023 has gotten off to a flying start. Ahead of the game, the Ahmedabad-based team skipper Beth Mooney has won the toss and elected to bowl first. She said "We'll have a bowl, good grass here. Chasing has been successful here. Her decision was started proving wrong with Hayley Matthews scoring 47 off 31 balls including four sixes and three fours.
However, the Blue Brigade, Mumbai were reduced to 77/3 in 10 overs. At this stage, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and New Zealand international Amelia Kerr didn't just help the team. They also put up a counter-attacking partnership of 89 runs in just seven overs. Meanwhile, Kaur came out to bat after the fall of England international Nat Sciver-Brunt. After the wicket of Matthews, Kaur decided to take matters into her own hands.
In the 11th over of the innings, the right-hander hit two back-to-back fours to Sneh Rana, her India teammate. Two overs later, the Melbourne Renegades player in the WBBL hit two fours to Australia's Annabel Sutherland. However, she didn't just stop there. In the 15th over of the innings, she hit Monika Patel for four back-to-back fours, followed by three back-to-back fours to Ashleigh Gardner in the next over.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr helped the team reach 207/5
After being reduced to 77/3, the duo decided not to let their foot off the pedal. They put together 89 runs in just seven overs. Talking about Kaur, she scored 65 off just 30 balls including 14 fours. On the other hand, Kerr scored an unbeaten 45 off just 26 balls including a six and six fours.
