The infamous "Monkeygate" scandal involving Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds took the world by storm. Both were involved in a heated argument, as some unpleasant words were exchanged between the two during India's tour to Australia in 2007-08. This led to a major controversy.
Symonds claimed that Singh called him "money", which the Indian offie denied. Several fans speak about this incident even today. However, it is to be noted that the two stalwarts went on to play together at Mumbai a few years later. It was during the 2011 edition of the Indian T20 league when the two played together.
Thus, Singh drew light on how he and Symonds patched up. He revealed that they cleared their differences in Chandigarh. While speaking to Sportskeeda, he stated that they hugged and apologised to each other.
“I remembered an incident when we were in Chandigarh. After playing a match that we won, we went to my friend’s place. There, we hugged for the first time and apologized to each other. We felt that the issue could have been sorted out more amicably. Both of us felt sorry. A lot of my friends from Mumbai Indians clicked pictures of that moment,” said Harbhajan Singh.
Further on, the "Turbanator" spoke about his thoughts when the Mumbai-based franchise signed Symonds. He said that the Aussie legend was a completely different man when he entered Mumbai's dressing room. During the 2011 edition, Mumbai made it to the playoffs, only to be knocked out by Bangalore during the second Qualifier.
“When Mumbai picked him, the first thought that came to my mind was – ‘why did they pick him? How will we (me and Symonds) get along together?’ When he entered the MI dressing room, Andrew was a different man altogether. I thought he was some angry person and I feel he would have thought the same about me,” he added.
