Chennai skipper, MS Dhoni has left no stone unturned in creating his legacy in the Indian T20 League. Under his captaincy, the team has won four titles, reached playoffs in 10 seasons, and played five finals. The team used to be so consistent from 2008 to 2015 and 2018 to 2019 that the fans used to joke that one place in the playoffs has already been booked at the start of the season.
The only time team didn't reach the playoffs was in 2020 and 2022. Talking about the Yellow Army's first trophy win under the Ranchi-player, it came in 2010. The journey towards the trophy wasn't that simple. For the first time in the history of the cash-rich league, the team was in deep trouble towards the end. They needed to win some back-to-back games to reach the top four.
After reaching the top four, there was no stopping for the team as they lift the trophy. Next year, they became the first team in the tournament to win back-to-back titles. However, in the fourth season, they did it with ease and command while playing against nine other teams. Next year, the team looked like they will lift the trophy once again when they reached the final. However, their winning juggernaut was stopped by Kolkata.
For the next few years, the team couldn't win the trophy. In late 2015, the team was banned for two seasons as the owners were indulged in betting and spot fixing in 2013. When they returned once again in 2018, it was an emotional moment for the wicketkeeper batter as he was back with the team. The team then went on to win their third trophy and announced themselves. Next year, they might have won but lost the final by one run.
Two years later, they won their fourth trophy on the back of eighth position finish in 2020. The team and its skipper has a great fan following among the Chennai fans and film industry in southern parts of India. They have wished the 'Captain Cool'.
