In anticipation of Season 2 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), the Adani Sportsline-owned Gujarat Giants has named former Australia cricketer Michael Klinger as the Head Coach. The upcoming season of the WPL is scheduled to take place in Bangalore and New Delhi, kicking off on 23 February at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Klinger joins the team alongside the legendary former Indian captain Mithali Raj, who serves as the Mentor and Advisor, and Nooshin Al Khadeer, who continues as the Bowling Coach since Season 1. Most recently, Klinger acted as an assistant coach for Sydney Thunder, a team that secured the fourth position in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).
Additionally, he collaborated with Phoebe Litchfield, the new addition to the Thunder, after having previously served as the head coach of the Melbourne Renegades Men’s team from 2019 to 2021. Klinger achieved legendary status in the Men’s BBL as a player, retiring in 2019 as the league’s all-time leading run scorer. His extensive experience across multiple facets of the game will undoubtedly be advantageous for the Gujarat Giants team.
