In what comes as major news, England's assistant coach Graham Thorpe has resigned from his position. It is to be noted that England recently went on to lose the Ashes 2021-22 by 4-0. Their batting was below-par, which led to them being massively criticized by the fans and experts.
Besides, Chris Silverwood was also sacked as England's head coach by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Thursday. The temporary arrangements for their upcoming tour to the West Indies will be made soon. Andrew Strauss, who has taken over as the Managing Director on an interim basis, went on to thank Thorpe for his contributions as the assistant coach.
“I’d like to thank Graham for his work over many years on the England coaching staff and wish him the best for the future,” said Andrew Strauss according to ECB’s official website. The mild overhaul began after ECB's managing director stepped down from his position.
Joe Root to continue as Test captain
In the meanwhile, several questions were raised on Joe Root's captaincy. As a matter of fact, several experts called for his axing as England Test captain. The batting maestro is yet to win a game in Australia.
However, Strauss confirmed that Root will continue to lead the team in the longest format of the game. The former English skipper said that Root is committed to doing better for his team. He also stated that he was disappointed after losing the five-match Test series.
“Having spoken to him, it is absolutely clear the extent of his commitment to taking this England cricket team forward. He has got incredible motivation and energy to do that. He is bruised, hugely disappointed by what went on in the Ashes – that goes without saying and many others are in the same boat – but he has the respect of the players, they all play for him and obviously he sets a magnificent example both on and off the field,” said Strauss.
