Former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir recently heaped praise on Indian fast bowler, Avesh Khan. Gambhir believes that Avesh Khan has loads of talent and can become an all-format player in the future. During a discussion on Star Sports, Gambhir stated the Indian T20 League’s performance shouldn’t be his only goal and should target a spot in the World Cup.
"This bowler has a lot of talent, he has pace, a big heart to bowl the difficult overs. But I will want to see him improve further in every match. He is a young bowler, only the IPL should not be his goal, the T20 World Cup is coming ahead." Former Indian opener stated.
Both Avesh Khan and Gautam Gambhir were part of the Lucknow franchise in the Indian T20 League 2022. Gambhir was picked as the mentor of the side. Avesh Khan was the highest wicket-taker for the team, picking 18 wickets in 13 matches at an economy of 8.73.
"He has the attitude that a fast bowler should have and the most important thing is that he is still young and wants to learn. If he continues to work hard, he can become an excellent bowler, not only in T20s but in all three formats." Gambhir added.
Avesh Khan was part of the India’s playing XI in the 1st T20I of the ongoing series against South Africa. He failed to pick a wicket, returning with bowling figures of 0 for 35 in 4 overs. Khan would look to dish out an improved bowling performance in the next game.
In the same discussion, Gambhir also reckons that Avesh Khan is one of the few bowlers in India who can bowl in all phases of a T20 game.
"That ability comes with pace. If you have the pace, then you feel confident in all three phases. We have seen a lot of bowlers who do not have the pace that Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna and Jasprit Bumrah have, then you have to give them the extra protection."
