Gautam Gambhir was one of the most aggressive players on the field during his playing days. He was often seen getting involved in a heated exchange with other players, sometimes with his own teammates.
The on-field banter of Gambhir with Kamran Akmal from Pakistan is still quite famous. He was also seen getting into a fight with Virat Kohli during an Indian T20 League match. Another incident was when he tried to intimidate Manoj Tiwary during a Ranji Trophy match. Recently, Gambhir revealed an incident for which he was suspended for two months.
Gambhir, who was speaking to Jatin Sapru on the latter’s YouTube show ‘Over and Out’, revealed that he got involved in a lot of fights during his school days.
“I’ve got into a lot of fights in school. In 12th standard, when every kid wants to go to school, attend the last days, and I was playing Ranji Trophy as well – I got suspended for two months. I straightaway sat in the board exams after that. Even my perfect badge was taken away. We had gone to Mayo College and were playing this ITSC tournament and we got into a fight with DPS,” said Gambhir
Gambhir recalled another of his incidents in which he was a part of a shoe fight. The result of the ‘shoe fight’ was a ruined portrait at the ‘Oman House’. He remembered the Headmaster of the Oman House cried due to this and Gambhir regretted it later on.
“We also did another thing which I now realize was very wrong. As kids, you are full of fervor. We were staying in Oman House. The man on whose name that House was built, had brought a huge portrait with a massive frame from Oman. At night, we had a shoe fight with spikes and all and ruined that picture. The headmaster of that house started crying,”- Gambhir said recalling the incident.
