Gambhir's remarkable half-century contributed significantly to the Capitals posting a formidable total of 223/7 in 20 overs, ultimately clinching the victory.

Beyond his impressive batting display, Gambhir found himself in the limelight due to a heated argument with S. Sreesanth. In the second over of the game, Gambhir, exhibiting his prowess, dispatched consecutive deliveries from Sreesanth for a six and a four. Known for his spirited demeanour, Sreesanth engaged in a verbal exchange, attempting to unsettle Gambhir.
Reacting to the incident, former India opener Gautam Gambhir made a cryptic social media post. In his latest Twitter post, he wrote, "Smile when the world is all about attention!" He also shared an image of him smiling in the Indian team's practice session from the time he was part of the national squad.

Earlier, after the game, Sreesanth released a video explaining the incident, alleging that Gambhir initiated the verbal exchange without any provocation. Sreesanth had stated, "I just wanted to clear some air on what happened with Mr Fighter, who always fights with all his colleagues for no reason whatsoever."
He also emphasised that Gambhir's behaviour was disrespectful, highlighting instances of the former opener not showing respect to senior players like Virender Sehwag. Shreesanth concluded by asserting that he was not at fault and highlighting Gambhir's unacceptable words and actions on the cricket field.
However, Gambhir will now be aiming to beat the Manipal Tigers in the second qualifier to book their berth in the finals. His India Capitals will be looking to continue their winning run in the tournament as they thrashed the Gujarat Giants in the elimination game. On the other hand, MNT will be looking to get back to winning ways after being thrashed by Urbanisers Hyderabad in the first qualifier.
