Gautam Gambhir got involved in an ugly verbal spat with Virat Kohli after the LSG vs RCB clash in the IPL 2023. But, in a recent interview on News18 Hindi, he claimed that there is nothing personal against Kohli or MS Dhoni. He said that whatever happens between them on the field, it only stays within the field.
He said: “My equation with MS Dhoni is the same as my equation with Virat Kohli. My fight with Virat or Dhoni is not personal, it is just about the match. They also want to win. It should stay on the field. I respect every player I played with and who played for India.” Now, regarding that matter, the former Pakistan cricketer, Ahmed Shehzad said that Gambhir did all this out of jealousy only.
“The gestures he showed against Kohli were not right.” - Shehzad on Gautam Gambhir
While talking on the Nadir Ali Podcast show, he said: "By what I saw, it was really sad. I can understand what happened on the field between that Afghanistan player (Naveen) and Virat Kohli. These things happen, but what you can't understand is why would Gambhir target a player of his own country, who right now the world's biggest player. The gestures he showed against Kohli were not right.”
“Our perception as viewers has changed as our feelings have gotten hurt. It seemed as if Gambhir tried to create something out jealousy. IPL has a brand and if any Indian superstar is being said something by someone – in this case Naveen – it means that there is hatred spread inside the dressing room. Only then does a player get the confidence to go and misbehave," he concluded.
On the same show, he also opened up about the mutual respect he has for Kohli. He said: “We share a mutual respect for each other. Whenever I need any advice regarding cricket, he has been kind (to help me out). I really respect him as a player. He took India to new heights in Test cricket. I haven't seen someone who has adapted so quickly. I feel his best is yet to come.”
