Former Pakistani cricketer Salman Butt has lashed out at Pakistani cricketers after they lost against the Sri Lankan team in the last match of the super-4 round of the Asia Cup 2022. He went on point out the poor shot selection from the Pakistani batter against the Islanders. They were in a good condition after losing one wicket on the score of 49 runs in the six overs. But their batting collapsed and lost nine wickets only within the next nine runs.
Sri Lanka’s star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s win with his bowling. He scalped three wickets by conceding 21 runs in his quota of four overs. With the help of his brilliant bowling, the Sri Lankan bowling attack bundled up the Pakistani batting only on the score of 121 runs in 19.1 overs.
I would describe it as a very poor shot selection - Salman Butt
This performance from the men in green didn’t go down well with former skipper Salman Butt. Apart from Babar Azam’s ‘good learning experience’ remark, Salman Butt has something else to say on this poor outing of Pakistan in the last super-4 match.
“The kind of shots Pakistan batters played, I won’t call it a bad day for them. I would describe it as a very poor shot selection. We could have said it was a bad day for them if they had some poor luck. However, batters were getting dismissed due to their inability to pick bowlers’ variations,” said Butt in his statement
“I am sure Pakistan will be a different team in the final. They will come in with a different attitude. Having said that, there are serious batting concerns. Pakistan has won games by showing brilliance in patches. There has been no wholesome performance," he added later.
Notably, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will meet again in the final of the tournament to fight for the title of the 15th edition of this continental tournament. Sri Lanka might have the upper hand as they are with winning momentum after winning four consecutive matches.
