The cricketing fraternity is in a state of shock following an embarrassing exit of the Indian team from the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma’s men are under the scanner of the former cricketers and the fans as well. It all happened to be possible for team India following their humiliating defeat against England by a massive margin of 10 wickets in the second semi-final.
Batting first, the Indians posted a total of 169 runs for the loss of six wickets, riding on the brilliant half-century knocks from Virat Kohli and star all-rounder Hardik Pandya. While chasing the target, the opening pair of Alex Hales and skipper Jos Buttler single-handedly took the match away from India’s grab.
Meanwhile, former Indian pacer Atul Wassan has come up with some suggestions for change in the Indian team management. He opined about having a new mentor for the Indian team after the humiliating loss in the 20-20 World Cup.
We can't have the same coaching staff for the T20 and Test cricket - Atul Wassan
"We can't have the same coaching staff for the T20 and Test cricket. You hire the best for the T20 format. Why didn’t we hire AB de Villers for the T20 World Cup as a mentor? He could have guided the team better. He can tell the players a bit about manufacturing the shots," said Wassan to the Indian news agency PTI.
Later on, Wassan went on to justify his statement for backing AB de Villiers to be part of Indian management. He felt that a specialist of shortest format like AB de Villiers would be an X-factor for the men in blue in some of the major international assignments.
“This game has proved again and again that you need a new breed. In 2007, we hardly had stars, the team was comprised of youngsters, they played freely and they won the title. We are relying too much on our bigger names to deliver all the time. We also wrongly thought that the expertise of IPL will translate into the World Cup's success. India is just faltering in big matches in do-or-die situations,” he added later.
