Shastri will join his former teammates Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Dilip Vengsarkar, Syed Kirmani, and Kris Srikkanth amongst others in receiving the CK Nayudu Award for lifetime achievement. The 1983 World Cup-winning former India opener Srikkanth won the award in 2019.

Shastri, who made his international debut in 1981, had a long stint with Team India. During his career spanning from 1981 to 1992, the former all-rounder represented the Men in Blue in 80 Tests and 150 ODIs. He has scored 6938 runs in international cricket including 15 centuries and also grabbed 280 wickets with his left-arm spin.

The 61-year-old was part of India's World Cup triumph in 1983 and played a crucial role in the 1985 World Championship of Cricket. A knee injury forced him to retire early, taking on the role of commentator and becoming the most prominent figure to hold the mic. He was appointed as director of the Indian cricket team in 2014 and remained in that position till the 2016 World Cup.

After Anil Kumble decided not to continue as head coach, Shastri took over the post in 2017 and led the team to greater heights alongside then-captain Virat Kohli. Under Shastri, India reached the semi-final of the ODI World Cup in 2019 and final of the inaugural Test championships. However, the duo failed to win a major international Trophy. Since giving up the coaching job in 2021, the Mumbai cricketer has returned to the commentary box.

Meanwhile, besides the lifetime achievement award, the Polly Umrigar Award for best men's international cricketer, the best international cricketer in women's cricket for India, best umpire and best domestic side awards are likely to be presented on Tuesday. However, the board has not released the official list of current and former players who will be bestowed with the awards.
