Ahead of the 2023 World Cup, India and Australia will lock horns with each other in a three-match ODI series. While India has a lot fewer questions to answer, having come off an Asia Cup triumph, it is a golden chance for Australia to get used to Indian conditions ahead of the big tournament. The Kangaroos will be looking for their first-rate players to get as much practice as possible.

From the Indian point of view, the big talking point has been the omission of Sanju Samson from the World Cup squad and also from the three-match ODI series against Australia. Robin Uthappa talked about Samson's plight and highlighted that it has not been easy to be in Samson's shoes. "No one would wanna be in Sanju's shoes right now!!" Uthappa wrote on Twitter.

"The justification could be that even if he was in the squad he wouldn't get a game. But not even being in the squad would be quite disheartening," The former India cricketer added in another tweet. Samson was interestingly taken to the Asia Cup as a travelling reserve. This was done as KL Rahul was not 100% fit for the first two of India's Asia Cup fixtures.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be rested for the first two ODIs against Australia

The sad part was that the man from Kerala did not get a game to showcase his skills. In the ODI format, in 13 matches he has scored 390 runs at an average of 55.71 and at a strike rate of 104. The 28-year-old has scored three ODI fifties. The last time he played an ODI for India was against the West Indies in the three-match ODI series.

For India, KL Rahul will lead the side as  Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are rested from the first two ODIs. Ravichandran Ashwin is the talk of the town at the moment as he has earned a recall to the ODI side having last played in the 50-over format in 2022 against South Africa. Suryakumar Yadav will also be a player to watch out for from India's point of view.
