MS Dhoni’s presence on the field as a calm and cool leader is known to all. The pressure-soaking capacity of the man, even in the most intense situation has been praised by fans and critics alike.
Many young Indian bowlers have often credited MS for guiding them with strategies from behind the stumps. Let’s have a look at the 5 most hilarious and wittiest comments made by MSD, caught on the stump mic.
5.“Bhai Aisa dalega to rakh le tu”: This moment came in an ODI match against New Zealand. Dhoni is often known for his non-orthodox decisions on the field.
In this match, MSD introduced Kedar Jhadav into the attack to squeeze in some overs from the off-spinner against a left-handed Batsman. Jhadav was soon seen bowling wide of off-stump. This was because the captain left the mid-wicket area open to induce a false shot from the batsman. But Jhadav was deterring from the plan and not bowling straight, to which MS Dhoni asked Kedar to place a fielder in the open area if he is afraid of getting hit there.
4.“Dhire dal le, Chhaka khake dikha”: Ravindra Jadeja is known for his impeccable line and length. He can continuously bowl on the same spot and frustrate a batsman. However, during this incident, the skipper of the team, MS Dhoni wanted Jadeja to bowl slower in order to get some purchase off the pitch. But Jadeja was preferring his normal style of fast deliveries which led MS to ask Jadeja to bowl slower and get hit for a six if needed.
3.“Volleyball ki tarah khara hua hain bich mein”: It was an ODI fixture between India and Ireland. MS Dhoni introduced the part-time off-spinner Suresh Raina into the attack.
While Raina was bowling, Dhoni advised the bowler to anticipate the batsman’s movement watching his leg. He continued to note the poor footwork of the striker and said that there is little movement on part of the batsman in the crease.
2.“He is still my first test wicket”: This was during an Indian T20 League in which MS Dhoni was playing for the Pune franchise. Manoj Tiwary had the podcast microphone with him. The man commentating was the English player, Kevin Pietersen.
As Manoj was backing to his fielding position, Pietersen decided to get cheeky with MS and asked Manoj to tell Dhoni that he is a better golfer than the keeper. To this MS Dhoni replied wittily that “He is still my first Test wicket”.
1.“Rokega, Ankh Band karke rokega”: India had New Zealand’s batting order down in this match. The young chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav was bowling. MS Dhoni told the spinner that the batsman will be looking to defend blindly in order to save his wicket. So, he instructed the bowler that he can change his angle that might induce an edge. The very next ball Kuldeep went round the wicket and the batsman put his front foot forward to defend the ball. The ball held its line and took an edge as the batter was caught by the slip fielder. This instance proved how good MSD is in reading a game.
