India faced off against Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series and eventually lost the series 2-1, given that the third ODI played on December 10, Saturday, was won by the KL Rahul-led Indian team. To add more, it was Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli who top scored with 210 and 113 respectively.

However, while a few players enjoyed a joyous run in the series, there were a few stars who struggled to find their rhythm and contribute to team India. We decided to handpick five Indian players who might not be a part of the 2023 50-over World Cup team India squad on the back of their poor run.

Here are the three players who might feature in the 2023 50-over World Cup:

1) Axar Patel

Axar Patel is one of the trusted allrounders at the moment and the player is in the squad to fill in for Ravindra Jadeja, India's seniormost allrounder, who was left out on the back of the injury that the player sustained during the Asia Cup 2022 played in September.

Although one has to agree that Patel has been doing well for India, when it comes to the ODI format, the left-handed batter’s contribution both with the bat and the ball remains a concern and it is highly likely that he might be dropped for the World Cup to be played in India in 2023.

2) Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar, the Indian pacer, made it to the squad on the back of his continued excellent run with the Chennai franchise in the Indian T20 League. Eventually, the Indian star impressed everyone with his swinging skills and people went on to consider him to be an alternative option for Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

However, Chahar had a sepulchral outing in the recently concluded ODI series against the Bangla Tigers and it remains to be seen if he would carry on with his stint as the pacer for the Men in Blue. Eventually, there are chances that he might be dropped for the upcoming 50-over World Cup as well.

3) Kuldeep Sen

Kuldeep Sen, the Indian sensation, made his debut in the ODI series against the Litton Das-led team and had a decent outing, although one could argue that he is still raw. Eventually, with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umran Malik on the radar, it remains to be seen if Sen would be backed further.

Given that the senior pacers are expected to make a return for the approaching 50-over World Cup, Sen might find himself getting dropped from the squad. One has to agree that he is a future prospect and might go on to play World Cups in future, but definitely not in 2023.

4) Shehbaz Ahmed

Shehbaz Ahmed is being groomed as an allrounder and the player’s contribution to the Indian team has been minimal. However, going by history, the Indian think tank have a habit of banking on the seniors when it comes to the multinational tournament.

In that case, it is highly likely that Ahmed might have to pave way for the seniors and sit out of the squad for the 2023 World Cup. Although one could argue that the tournament is being played in India, the lack of experience could play the spoilsport for Ahmed.

5) Rahul Tripathi

The Indian domestic circuit is full of talented players and seconding with fans, one has to agree that Rahul Tripathi is one among them. Known for his ability to give it for all the team that he is playing for, Tripathi made it to the Indian squad for the Bangladesh ODI series on the back of his continued stupendous run.

However, Tripathi failed to make it to the playing XI in all of the games against the Bangla Tigers and given that India are already having players who are awaiting opportunities, it is highly likely that the batter might be dropped for the showpiece event set to take place next year.
