The last few editions haven't really been great for Rajasthan. The inaugural champions have blown hot and cold ever since their shock win in the first season. However, the team in pink left no stone unturned in ensuring that they have a good team this time around.
They were absolutely superb during the mega auction as they purchased some quality players. The fans of the franchise would hope that their favourite team win their second title. Today, we will be taking a look at five reasons why Rajasthan can win the 15th edition of the Indian T20 league.
1) World-class spinners:
Contrary to the last few years, Rajasthan have arguably the best spin attack for the 2022 edition. They acquired the services of both, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. While both of them have been India's leading spinners, having them together can be a nightmare for the opposition batters.
Ashwin can bowl a few overs at the start and then bowl his remaining overs during the middle phase. As for Chahal, Samson can unleash him directly in the middle overs, which would force the opposition team to go after him. Eight overs of the spin duo guarantees Rajasthan wickets as well as economical overs.
2) Abundant firepower:
The key to success in T20 cricket is firepower. Rajasthan have that covered as they have a lot of explosive batters. First things first, they have Jos Buttler at the top of the order.
The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson generally like to start hitting from ball one as well. Besides, they have someone like Shimron Hetmyer, whose USP is to play the big shots. On their day, these batters can chase any total.
3) Reliable anchors:
No matter how many hard-hitters are there in a team, anchors play a crucial role as well. During a batting collapse, it is their responsibility to ensure that the team get to a respectable total. As far as Rajasthan are concerned, they have two superb anchors.
One being Devdutt Padikkal and the other being Rassie van der Dussen. Devdutt is a very good player of spin. On the other hand, Rassie has been one of the most reliable batters for South Africa.
4) Superb contingency plans:
It is always better to have a few backup options just in case. The Samson-led side have their trustable contingency plans if things go haywire. Some of their overseas players who are expected to warm the bench are Daryll Mitchell and Nathan Coulter-Nile.
They can also turn to Obed McCoy if Trent Boult faces an injury. When it comes to the Indian players, the likes of Karun Nair and Navdeep Saini are expected to warm the bench. Thus, the Rajasthan management need not worry if a player loses his form, or gets injured.
5) Top-class pacers:
Trent Boult has been sensational in the last few editions of the Indian T20 League. The Kiwi pacer is expected to wreak havoc in the powerplay. Rajasthan also have Prasidh Krishna, who has been in superb form of late.
They can always turn to Navdeep Saini, who is blessed with the ability to generate express pace. Someone like Jimmy Neesham can also come in handy for them. This makes their pace attack really strong on paper.
