The ODI and T20I squad for India's tour of the West Indies have been finalized. Currently, India are playing an ODI series against England. India will then tour West Indies for T20Is and ODIs.
India will go to West Indies with a second-string side for the ODI series. Shikhar Dhawan will lead the team. However, the senior players will be back in the T20 series, which will be played, thereafter.
Meanwhile, there are a lot of players who have been rested or dropped in the T20 series as well. In this article, we will be talking about them.
Five players who have been rested/dropped from the team
-
Virat Kohli
The former India skipper has been rested for the entire tour. Recently, it was reported that he had asked for the rest. Currently, he is woefully out of form and is short of confidence.
Virat Kohli isn't part of the squad for the T20I series against West Indies. The Indian Cricket Board hasn't given any explanation behind the same. It has been assumed that he has been rested for the series.
2. Sanju Samson
The wicketkeeper batter from Kerala can be assumed to be dropped from the team. Recently, he scored an eye-catching 77 runs against Ireland. The fans haven't been able to figure out why he has been dropped from the T20I team.
However, it needs to be noted that he will be part of the ODI team. It can be assumed that maybe, the Rajasthan skipper is not part of the team's plans for the 20-20 World Cup in Australia this year.
3. Umran Malik
The tearaway pacer was given the national call-up after his impressive showing for Hyderabad in the Indian T20 League 2022. In the tournament, he tormented batters with his sheer pace. However, with pace, it also brings the risk of leaking too many runs.
The same happened with Malik. In the games he played against Ireland and England, he went for plenty of runs. Ahead of the series against the West Indies, he has been duly dropped from the side.
4. Yuzvendra Chahal
The leggie will be part of the ODI setup but has been rested for the T20I series. It is hard to believe why he has been rested in the first place. The right-arm bowler doesn't play Tests and was playing in every series since the 15th season of the cash-rich league.
It could be case where the team management would want him fresh for the Asia Cup, to be played in Late August and September this year, Other than this, there is no reason why he is rested.
5. Jasprit Bumrah
The lead pacer of the team has played most of the games on England tour. With the ODI series leveled 1-1, he is expected to play the decider. Meanwhile, he has been rested for the West Indies tour.
The reason could be his workload management. Also, the team wouldn't want to risk him getting injured in the humid conditions of the American continent.
