After getting whitewashed by South Africa in the recently concluded three-match ODI series, India are all set to play a limited-overs series against West Indies at home. This series consist of three one-day games and three T20Is. The Asian side has already announced their squads. However, there are a few talented players who unfortunately weren't named in either of the ODI or T20I squad. Today, we shall be taking a look at five Indian players who were unlucky to miss out in India's squad for the West Indies series.
1) Sanju Samson:
It is really sad when a talented player like Sanju Samson has to miss out on featuring in the Indian team. On his day, the keeper-batter can single-handedly win matches for his side. Moreover, the Rajasthan skipper is a good player of both, pace, as well as spin. He last represented India during the series against Sri Lanka in July 2021. However, he failed to impress.
2) Shahrukh Khan:
Shahrukh Khan is considered the next big thing in Indian cricket. The big unit has a knack for consistently hitting the ball a long way. He is a perfect candidate to play the role of a finisher. It is to be noted that his form in the domestic circuit of late has been superb as well. Thus, he deserved to be in the squad for the shortest format of the game, at least.
3) Prithvi Shaw:
Time and again, Prithvi Shaw has proven one and all that he deserves to play at the biggest stage. The aggressive opener is an absolute match-winner and can demolish any given bowling unit. His strike rate in the Indian T20 league is 146.3, which proves how devastating he can truly be.
4) Rishi Dhawan:
Rishi Dhawan is unarguably one of the unluckiest players to not feature in either of the squads for the home series against the West Indies. The all-rounder was in the form of his life in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22. Not only was he the second-highest run-getter of the tournament, he was also second on the list of most wickets in the tournament. Taking into account Hardik Pandya's unavailability due to his fitness concerns, this was an ideal time to pick the Himachal Pradesh cricketer.
5) Varun Chakravarthy:
While Varun Chakravarthy was India's key spinner heading into the 20-20 WC 2021, he isn't even in the squad for the upcoming limited-overs series. Although the mystery spinner wasn't at his best during the mega tournament, he is still new to international cricket and thus, deserved to be backed for a few more games. Moreover, he provides the "X factor" to the team, and can pick wickets during the middle overs of the game. If not the one-dayers, the Tamil Nadu spinner deserved to be in the T20I side, owing to his exploits in the Indian T20 league.
