Indian premium fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is out of action for almost five months. Bumrah missed many major events in 2022, the 20-20 World Cup 2022 was also one of them in which India had to face an embarrassing 10-wicket loss in the semifinal against England.
The 29-year-old was expected to make a comeback against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but now it is reported that the speedster might miss out on the entire season of the Indian T20 League and the WTC final as well. Here we will take a look at 5 players who can replace Bumrah in the WTC final.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar was last seen in the longest format in 2018 against South Africa. He took 4 wickets in the match and played some handy knocks in both innings and was named player of the match. However, injuries kept him away from action for a long time.
The 33-year-old can swing both ways and is preparing for the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League. He might replace Bumrah in the WTC final as he has a lot of experience and his ability to swing the balls can be very useful for the team in Oval.
Umesh Yadav
The right-arm fast bowler, Umesh Yadav has performed really well in many home Test series but couldn’t get opportunities overseas. The 35-year-old bowler has picked up 165 wickets in 54 Test matches he played so far. He has also shown his batting skill in the longest format many times.
His ability to take wickets in the middle overs can be very helpful for the team in the WTC final. He also brings extra pace with accuracy.
Jaydev Unadkat
The left-arm bowler, Jaydev Unadkat has proved his ability in domestic cricket many times and recently won the Ranji Trophy with Saurashtra. Unadkat got the reward for performing well in domestic cricket as he was called back for the second time in the Test format after a gap of 12 years.
Unadkat was also included in the squad against Australia in the four-match Test series but was ruled out after the first Test to play in the Ranji Trophy final. His experience can bring the first-ever WTC trophy for India.
Ishant Sharma
The veteran Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma played his last test match in November 2021 against New Zealand. However, he went wicketless in the match and didn’t get another chance after that. He is also one of the 11 Indian players to play 100 Test matches for India.
His experience in the longest format can be very beneficial for the team as he can get more bounce on the pitch.
Mukesh Kumar
The right-arm medium-fast bowler Mukesh Kumar is having a dream run in first-class cricket. He performed outstandingly well in the Ranji Trophy final as well. The speedster took 4 wickets in the match for Bengal but couldn’t take his team to victory.
His inclusion as a replacement for Bumrah can be lethal as he will be a new face in the longest format and it’d be difficult for the opposition to read his line and length.
