In another big development for Pakistan Cricket, Fawad Alam has called it quits to move away from Pakistan Cricket. In his 15-year-long career, Alam who will turn 37 years in October will turn up to play in the USA in Minor League Cricket T20 for the Chicago Kingsmen as a 'local player'. A lot of T20s are going to be played in the tournament. This league will happen after a successful Major League Cricket season that took place.
Other Pakistan players such as Hamad Azam, Mohammad Moshin, Saif Badar and Sami Aslam have gone on the same boat and left Pakistan to play for the USA. Moshin played for Texas Super Kings in MLC. Alam did not have the best of careers as his has always been a start-stop one. The left-hander was most famous for his unconventional stance and technique.
Fawad Alam last played a Test against Sri Lanka in 2022
When it came to Test matches, Alam starred for Pakistan in 19 of them, the last being in 2022. He has hit 1011 runs at an average of 38.88 and a strike rate of 45.58. He has struck five centuries and two fifties in the longest format for the Men in Green. When it comes to ODIs the left-hander has made 966 runs in 38 games at an average of 40.25 and a strike rate of 74.47. He has a lone century and six fifties in ODIs.
Alam could not get a place as often as he would like in the Pakistan side as they had star batters in the form of Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq. Notably, Alam notched up a ton when he made his Test debut in 2009 for Pakistan. With a lot of Pakistan players moving to USA, the strong influx of players to the States would give Pakistan Cricket a major blow.
Alam played his last Test against Sri Lanka in 2022 when Pakistan went to Sri Lanka's shores. The left-hander also starred in a series against England in England in 2020 at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
