Indian wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has created a splash ever since his debut late last year. After his brilliant IPL performances for Punjab Kings, the 30-year-old earned his dream Indian call-up.
Once part of the Mumbai Indians, Jitesh spoke glowingly about India skipper Rohit Sharma. Jitesh was recently speaking to Sports Hour where he made these comments.
Indore will play host to the second T20I between India and Afghanistan on Sunday. For the first time in over 400 days, both Rohit and Virat will bat together for India in a T20I contest. India had won the first game in Mohali thanks to Shivam Dube who scored an impressive half-century.
Jitesh Sharma speaks glowing about Rohit –
Ahead of the second T20I on Sunday in Indore, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma was praised by Jitesh Sharma. The India wicketkeeper said “As a human, I like Rohit Sharma - there are many players who make runs but when you see Rohit Sharma bat, it looks like batting is so easy - he gives all of us confidence and is so pleasing to the eyes"
Since his debut for India, Jitesh Sharma has played 8 games scoring 100 runs with a strike rate of 151. Many of the wicketkeeping hopefuls will be looking forward to the IPL with an eye on the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Speaking about his game, Jitesh Sharma said “I always go for strike rate- I don’t compromise on strike rate. It also makes it easier for the following batters”. India while chasing 159 to win, saw Jitesh score 31 off 20 balls and added 45 runs for the fourth wicket with Shivam Dube.
Shubman Gill is set to be benched as Virat Kohli is back in the Indian T20I setup. The 35-year-old is likely to open the batting alongside Rohit Sharma. The men in blue will just play one more T20I game before the focus moves to the Test format. After the England series, the players will play the IPL before going to West Indies for the T20I World Cup in June.
