India and Pakistan clashing in a cricket match is always one of the most exciting sporting moments in the world. The upcoming India vs Pakistan match on 28th August was thought to be a similarly competitive game of cricket as both teams look properly charged up in anticipation.

The Pakistan team however faced a setback when premium fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi was ruled out of the Asia Cup with a knee injury. Shaheen Afridi broke India’s back in the 2021 T20I World Cup, removing the top three Indian batters cheaply. The pacer was expected to produce a similar bowling masterclass in the upcoming match.

His unavailability would now be a disadvantage to the Pakistan team, something that former pace bowler Waqar Younis iterated as well. In a recent tweet, Younis said, “Shaheen’s injury Big relief for the Indian top order batsmen. Sad we won’t be seeing him in Asia Cup 2022. Get fit soon champ.”

Younis was harking back to Shaheen’s performance in the last game India and Pakistan played together. Younis suggested that Indian batters would be taking a sigh of relief now that Afridi was not playing. His comments understandably did not go down well with a lot of Twitter users who accused the former Pakistan player of already coming up with an excuse in case Pakistan loses the match against India.

Earlier PCB Chief Medical Officier had given updates on Afridi’s injury saying, “I have spoken with Shaheen and he is understandably upset with the news, but he is brave young man who has vowed to come back strongly to serve his country and team. Although he has made progress during his rehabilitation in Rotterdam, it is now clear he will require more time and is likely to return to competitive cricket in October.”

Twitter was not impressed with Waqar Younis’s comments undermining Indian batting strength and in response trolled the former cricketer. Let’s look at some of the reactions.
