England skipper Eoin Morgan has gone past former India captain MS Dhoni and former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan to become the most successful T20I captain. Morgan now has 43 wins from 68 T20Is. Meanwhile, Dhoni had won 42 games in 72 matches from 2007 to 2016. Afghan, who recently retired from international cricket led Afghanistan to wins in 42 matches in 52 outings.

Morgan achieved the feat while leading England to a win over Sri Lanka in the 20-20 World Cup. As usual, the southpaw was spot on with his field placements and put on the choke, with Adil Rashid leading the charge of the team’s victory by 26 runs. Morgan also got amongst runs as he scored a valuable 40 and formed a crucial partnership with wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler.

It was this vital fifth-wicket partnership of 112 that helped the team post a challenging total of 163 in the end. Buttler though managed to grab the majority of eyeballs due to his splendid knock of unbeaten 101, which was also his first century in T20Is. England’s fourth victory in the showpiece event has guaranteed them a semifinal berth. With an enviable net run rate of +3.183, the Morgan-led side will most probably finish at the top of the points table in Group A.

This will be a second straight semifinal for England after the 20-20 World Cup in 2016. That was the time when England started to revamp their white-ball cricket. Five years have gone by and England’s juggernaut refuses to slow down. Morgan not only has transformed the team’s white-ball setup but has also made England a force to reckon with in the limited-overs format.
