The Test series between England and New Zealand is currently underway. Hosts England have taken a 1-0 lead after beating New Zealand by 5 wickets in the first Test at Lord’s. Playing his first Test as captain of the England Cricket Test Team, Ben Stokes has made a winning start and it should give him a lot of confidence.
It was a great game of Test cricket as bowlers of both the sides kept the troubling the opposition batters throughout the game. New Zealand batted first and were bundled out for just 132 runs on the board. In reply, England couldn’t bat well either and were bowled out for just 141 runs on the board. New Zealand, later, set England a target of 277 runs.
It didn’t’ look like England would chase down the score but a special ton from Joe Root helped England win the game by 5 wickets at Lord’s Cricket Ground. Root scored an unbeaten knock of 115 runs in 170 balls, while the likes of Ben Stokes (54) and Ben Foakes (32) also made valuable contributions.
Two more Tests are remaining in the series. The second Test is slated to be played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham from 10th June to 14th June 2022.
