England have named the 16 member squad for their upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. The Three Lions are set to play three T20Is and as many ODIs against the Islanders. The T20I series will get underway on June 23 in Cardiff while the ODI series will commence on June 29. England, who have already announced the T20I squad, have no major surprises in the ODI squad. They, however, have included Sussex fast bowler George Garton. David Willey, who was recalled in the T20I squad, has been included in the ODI squad as well. The IPL bound players, who were rested for the Test series against New Zealand, have returned to the squad. However, Ben Stokes, who will be making a return to competitive cricket, after picking up an injury in the IPL, in T20 Blast for Durham, has not been named in the squad.
Meanwhile, England coach Chris Silverwood confirmed that pace bowlers Jofra Archer, Reece Topley and Saqib Mahmood were not available for selection due to injuries.
“Several players are not available for selection due to injury. Jofra Archer (right elbow), Saqib Mahmood (abdominal) and Reece Topley (side strain) are all missing, but continue to make excellent progress from their respective injuries,” Chris said.
Also, a lower back stress fracture, which Olly Stone sustained in the second Test against New Zealand, has ruled him out of the entire summer.
