'Effortless Wolvaardt': Laura Wolvaardt guides Velocity to a comfortable win against Supernovas

The second match of the Women's T20 Challenge 2022 saw Supernovas and Velocity take the field against each other. The spectators remained witness to a thrilling encounter between the two teams.

Velocity won the toss and skipper Deepti Sharma decided to bowl first. The Supernovas had a terrible start to their innings. Just within Harmanpreet Kaur's side was reduced to 18 for 3 and it looked like the match will be over very soon. But Taniya Bhatia and the skipper of the team staged a turnaround from this stage. the duo stitched a partnership of 82 runs. They got the team to 100 runs before Bhatia (36 of 32) was dismissed in the 15th over of the innings. Kaur however kept her act together and batted till the 19th over of the innings. She scored 71 runs off 51 balls hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes before walking back to the pavilion. Sune Luus played a cameo of 20 off 14 balls and helped her team reach a total of 150 runs in their 20 overs. Kate Cross was the pick of the bowlers for Velocity picking up two wickets for 24 runs from her 4 overs.

In their pursuit of the at-par total, Velocity had a shay start. They lost Natthakan Chatham in the second over when the team's score was just 6 runs. Burt Shafali Verma was looking in a dream touch. She kept taking on the bowlers and completed the fastest fifty in the history of the tournament in just 30 balls. While she kept going strong, Velocity lost Yastika Bhatia (17 of 13) in the 8th over of the innings. However, it was a stunning fielding effort from Harmanpreet Kaur that led to the fall of Shafali. But before she walked back she had already played a stunning knock of 51 runs off 32 balls with 9 fours and 1 six under her belt. When Shafali was dismissed the team's total was 80 for 3 in 9.4 overs. But after this Deepti Sharma (24 of 25) and Laura Wolvaardt (51 of 35) stitched a stable partnership and ensured Velocity go over the line. They stayed till the end and Velocity won the match by 7 wickets with 10 balls remaining in the match.
