The action returned in the Women’s T20 League on Monday as Bangalore faced off against Delhi in the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Bangalore, who are winless in the league once again had to face disappointment as they could only manage 150/4 in their 20 overs giving Delhi a comfortable chase by their standards.

Skipper Smriti Mandhana’s poor form continued as she was dismissed for a score of just eight runs. Mandhana who remained the costliest player in the auction of the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 league has certainly not justified her price tag yet in the tournament. Bangalore’s innings was rescued by Ellyse Perry who scored 67 off 52. Richa Ghosh’s quick-fire cameo of 37 off 16 got Bangalore to a respectable total of 150/4.

Shikha Pandey completed a three-wicket haul against Bangalore

For Delhi, Shikha Pandey remained the pick of the bowlers returning with figures of 3/23 from her four overs. The other scalp in the game for Delhi went to the super consistent Tara Norris. The team from the capital started off disastrously as last game’s star Shafali Verma went out for a golden duck. Soon after her, the other opener and skipper Meg Lanning had to depart.

Delhi’s innings was then brought back to track by Alice Caspey who failed to convert her start to a big knock, getting out after scoring 38. Jemimah Rodrigues followed the same path as Capsey, scoring 32 off 28. At the end Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen took Delhi off the finish line as they beat Bangalore by six wickets with two balls to go. This is Bangalore’s fifth consecutive defeat in the tournament.

Next, in the Women’s T20 League, the unbeaten Mumbai franchise will take on Gujarat in the Brabourne Stadium. While the game looks like yet another Mumbai win, Gujarat are capable of an upset. However, the team representing the West Indian state are much more in need of the points. They are struggling at the fourth position with two points off four games.
