Pakistan beat India in the last 20-20 World Cup by 10 wickets. It was their first ever win against India in World Cups and the fans couldn't keep calm by then. But former cricketers and a few fans went a bit ahead to bring the religion in between. One such incident was when former cricketer Waqar Younis faced backlash due to his remark on Mohammad Rizwan's 'namaz' on the ground after their stunning victory.
The former cricketer said that he was happier to see Rizwan do 'namaz' on the ground in front of Hindus than the victory itself. He came up with his remark during a discussion with ARY news.
"And the most beautiful thing that Rizwan did was he offered Namaz in the ground itself in front of Hindus. For me that was the most satisfying thing, Mashallah, that was really something very, very special for me,โ Younis said during his discussion with ARY news.
The incident took place in October 2021, after their victory. And the cricketer took it to Twitter to apologize for the same. "In the heat of the moment, I said something which I did not mean which has hurt the sentiments of many. I apologise for this, this was not intended at all, genuine mistake. Sports unites people regardless of race, colour or religion," he tweeted after facing backlash.
