Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is once again on the receiving end of the criticism from the fans of former Indian skippers MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Recently, Gambhir made a statement targeting Virat and Dhoni when he was in a conversation with The Indian Express. Gambhir went on to question the culture of ‘hero worship’ in the Indian cricketing scenario for a few cricketers specifically.
“Do you think that this whole hero worship chokes the next star to come up? Nobody has grown in that shadow. It was Mahendra Singh Dhoni earlier, it is Virat Kohli now,” Gambhir was quoted as saying to The Indian Express.
Although, his statement didn’t go down well with the fans of both the veterans and they slammed him on the social media platform Twitter. Fans lashed out at Gambhir and happened to say that he is jealous of the caliber of both Indian greats.
Here’s how fans reacted to the statement from Gautam Gambhir:
Dear @GautamGambhir no one builds the popularity of @msdhoni or @imVkohli but their performance does. So, don’t be jealous and focus on your work.#INDvsAUS #BCCI #KingKohli

Gautam gambhir has problem with hero worshipping, and he was indirectly talking about players like him who doesn't get fandom like Virat kohli and MS Dhoni, my question is to him that why tf he doesn't become a hero so that he also can get worshipped like others.

He ended up as the second highest run-scorer in the tournament just five runs behind the star Pakistani batter Mohammad Rizwan. The Delhi batter scored 276 runs in five innings of the five matches with an amazing average of 92.00 having a century and two half-centuries on his credit.
Now, he will be seen in action for the Indian team in the upcoming T20I series against Australia. The first match of the series will be played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium today from 7.30 PM.
