The action returned in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League with a doubleheader on Saturday. For the day’s first game, Rajasthan Royals hosted Delhi Capitals in their second home, Guwahati. At the same time, the second game of the day is the IPL’s El Clasico, with Mumbai Indians hosting Chennai Super Kings in the Wankhede Stadium in a blockbuster clash.
Regarding the first game, the visitors, Delhi Capitals, won the toss and decided to bowl first, inviting the home side to use the willow. Rajasthan started off well with the opening partnership between Jos Butler and Yashasvi Jaiswal, yielding 98 runs in 8.3 overs. However, right after Jaiswal’s dismissal, skipper Sanju Samson was shown the way to the pavilion.
Skipper Sanju Samson departed for a four-ball duck
There were huge expectations for Sanju Samson, the skipper for Rajasthan Royals. However, the T20 specialist batter could not match the same as he departed without scoring after playing four balls for his duck. He mistimed Kuldeep Yadav’s flighted delivery to give away an easy catch to Anrich Nortje.
Local lad Riyan Parag also failed to play a longer innings as his struggle on the crease lasted for 11 deliveries yielding him seven runs with no boundaries. He was cleaned up by Rovman Powell. Rajasthan Royals reached 199/4 at the end of their 20 overs.
Rajasthan are coming into this game against the backdrop of a defeat at the same venue against the Punjab Kings by a meagre five runs. The game was one of the best watches this season so far. They started their campaign in commanding fashion defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home by 72 runs. They are playing their first two games in their second home – Guwahati.
Delhi, on the other hand, are yet to win a game in this year’s edition of the IPL. They lost their first game to Lucknow Super Giants by 50 runs, while Gujarat showed them another defeat by 6 wickets in their second game.
