Ahead of a highly anticipated clash between Bangalore and Rajasthan, Dinesh Karthik has breached the Indian T20 League’s code of conduct. Notably, the Bangalore wicket-keeper batter breached the code of conduct during the Eliminator match between Bangalore and Lucknow.
Karthik has been admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the Indian T20 League Code of Conduct and the Indian batter has also accepted the sanction. It is important to know that for all the level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.
“Mr Karthik admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” the IPL said in a statement.
“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.
Notably, Article 2.3 covers the use of words commonly known and understood to be offensive, obscene and/or profane (in any language) and which can be heard by the spectators and/or the viewing public whether by way of the stump-microphone or otherwise. This conduct may include, for example, swearing in frustration at one’s own play or fortune.
The statement, however, didn’t give any reason for the breach. In the Eliminator match, Dinesh Karthik scored a valuable knock of 37 runs in 23 balls and was involved in the game-turning partnership of 92 runs in 41 balls with Rajat Patidar. Bangalore, eventually, won the game by 14 runs and are slated to play against Rajasthan in the Qualifier 2 match on Friday.
Dinesh Karthik has shown great form in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League. He has been one of the biggest reasons behind Bangalore’s success in the tournament. Turning up for Bangalore this season, Karthik has scored 324 runs in 15 matches at an outstanding average and strike rate of 65 and 187 respectively.
His impressive performance with the bat has also helped him earn a call-up in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 series against South Africa at home. The first T20I is scheduled to be played on 9th June, Thursday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
