The 2023 ODI World Cup is all set to begin on 5 October in India. So, fans are hoping to see the Men in Blue win the prestigious trophy for the third time in their history. However, they won it last time in 2011. However, ahead of the tournament, the team are still looking for some answers, especially with their designated wicketkeeper. Rishabh Pant is almost confirmed that he will not be available as he is still in rehab.

Speaking about options, India have players like Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul. However, Rahul is also looking to get fit from the thigh injury that he sustained during IPL 2023. So, on Twitter, a question was asked about choosing any one of them as the number one option for the World Cup. In response to that, a fan took Dinesh Karthik’s name. Seeing that, the veteran wicketkeeper batter shared a tweet and confirmed his presence at the upcoming mega event.

Dinesh Karthik has played 94 ODIs for Team India
Karthik wrote: “You'll see me in the World Cup for sure is what I can say”. It seemed that the veteran wicketkeeper is currently out of contention for making a comeback for the team. But, he can be seen as a commentator. Recently, he was busy doing commentary during Ashes 2023 and now, he is doing commentary with Sky Sports for the ongoing edition of The Hundred. Karthik last played for Team India in November 2022.
It was the game against Bangladesh in the 20-20 World Cup at Adelaide. Speaking about ODIs, he last played in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at Manchester. After that, he has been seen playing in IPL but has not managed to make a comeback in the 50-over format. He has played 94 ODIs so far and scored 1752 runs, at an average of 30.20. Karthik also has smashed nine fifties. India are currently busy playing the ongoing T20I series in West Indies. Then, they will play in Ireland in a three-match T20I series followed by Asia Cup 2023 and a three-match ODI series at home against the Aussies just before the World Cup.
