The South African team is on a tour of India for a five-match T20I series. The first of the five-match T20I series has been played at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The visitors started their tour with an easy win of seven wickets over India with the heroics of David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen.
Indian team’s combination of playing XI in the first T20I, on the other hand, has been criticized by the experts and former players. Former chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar is the latest to join the list. He has now advised head coach Rahul Dravid to make some changes in the team for the second match.
The former chief selector has advised Dravid to add pace sensation Umran Malik to the playing XI. He believes that the young pacer is prepared for International cricket.
The 22-year-old impressed everyone with his stellar performances in the Indian T20 League while playing for the Hyderabad franchise. Having appeared in 14 matches in the season, Umran scalped 22 wickets, including one four-fer and one five-fer to his name.
Its the right time to test him in international cricket - Vengsarkar
“Everybody has a different outlook on the game. But I feel he deserves to play after showing that kind of speed and accuracy in the IPL. Also when you are playing (international cricket) at home, that’s the right time to test somebody like him,” Vengsarkar was quoted as saying to Khaleej Times.
Furthermore, Vengsarkar also lauded Umran’s fitness and aggression as a fast bowler. Talking about his pace and accuracy, Vengsarkar said: “He is one of the most exciting prospects I have seen in the last 10 years. I hope he does well because he looks very fit, and he has that aggression of a fast bowler. He has got pace and accuracy. I think he should be able to play for India for a long time.”
To note, Umran was not part of India’s playing XI in the first T20I. Rahul Dravid decided to go with the pace attack which included the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, and Harshal Patel.
