Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has been out of form for some time, drawing a lot of criticism. Many former cricketers and analysts have publicly criticised Kohli's form. Some have even suggested that Virat should go back to playing domestic cricket for a while. The latest to join is former Indian pacer, Venkatesh Prasad.
Prasad took to Twitter to take an indirect hit on Virat Kohli. He said that all the greats of the game have been dropped at some point when they failed to perform, but he believed that seemed to have changed now. He pointed out that the out-of-form players should return to domestic cricket.
"There was a time when you were out of form, you would be dropped irrespective of reputation. Sourav, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Zaheer, Bhajji all have been dropped when not in form. They have went back to domestic cricket, scored runs and staged a comeback," he wrote.
"The yardsticks seem to have changed drastically now, where there is rest for being out of form. This is no way for progress. There is so much talent in the country and cannot play on reputation. One of India’s greatest match-winner, Anil Kumble sat out on so many ocassions, need action for the larger good," he added.

Although he did not mention Virat's name, it was clear that he was speaking of the former Indian captain. This did not sit well with Virat Kohli supporters. They lashed out at the former Indian pacer for doubting Virat's abilities.
Many fans even pointed out that a team should carry its great players irrespective of their forms. "That guy has the second best average in T20Is since 2020, with a strike rate of 136. WHO is the first? Deepak Hooda with a sample size of 4 innings. With all due respect to Venky Sir, you can’t drop your ‘second best’. We even carried Sachin, for a brief period," a fan wrote.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Venkatesh Prasad's tweet

Shut ur mouth...😡
Out of form hokar bhi tino format mai world best hai Virat.
Love for Virat Kohli#istandwithkohli
In ODIs @imVkohli has 12000 plus runs at an avg of 58 plus. In T20s he’s the highest run getter for the last 3 years and an avg of 50 plus. What else is required? Form is temporary and class is permanent. Hold on to your Mules! Don’t beat them so badly. They can’t run!

Seriously?? Did you drop #SachinTendulkar when he was going through rough patch? #Kohli #SupportKohli #Cricket #India #T20WorldCup 🏏

Need attention?
Nothing has changed now...was SRT dropped when he was going through a lean patch? NO, NEVER. Others, who you have named did not match up to SRT. Same is the reason why VK is not being dropped. LEGENDS ARE NEVER DROPPED...THEY TAKE REST AT THEIR OWN WILL.

You are wrong. You don't know King Kohli's records. He may be going through tough time but who are to question him? Despite scoring 1, which you made fun of, he managed to make us win. Don't angry King Kohli.

Why only Kohli??? Rohit, pant, iyer has also not shown their true colors when it comes about scoring at crucial times in T20I. Iyer was selected over Hooda. The result would have been different in yesterday's game if Hooda played. He can bowl 1 or 2 overs and bat a good pace

Didn’t expect this from you Venky, you are vouching to drop one of India’s greatest.
