South Africa’s rising star, Dewald Brevis has been showcasing his class in the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022. He recently played a vital 13-ball 31-run cameo in the ongoing clash between Mumbai and Lucknow. Chasing a formidable score of 200 runs, Mumbai didn’t make a great start as they had lost skipper, Rohit Sharma in just 3rd of the innings.
South African young batter, Dewald Brevis came at number three and counter-attacked. He played some outstanding shots in his short cameo. Brevis hit 6 fours and 1 six en-route to his 13-ball 31 at a strike rate of 238.46. The 18-year old cricket was playing well but, unfortunately, lost his wicket at a crucial stage in the game.
The South Africa youngster has shown his class in the tournament and is certainly one for the future. He first grabbed headlines in the ICC 2022 Under-19 World Cup. Brevis finished the tournament as the highest run-getter, amassing 506 runs in 6 matches at 84.33.
Brevis, so far, has had a pretty good campaign for Mumbai in the Indian T20 League 2022. In 4 matches, he has managed to score 117 runs in 4 matches at a strike rate of 160.
According to reports, it has been revealed that Dewald Brevis has got posters of the likes of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar at his home. The South African cricketer recently revealed that he draws inspiration from the likes of AB de Villiers, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli among others.
Speaking on the MI show at Star Sports, Dewald Brevis stated, I think a lot of people know AB de Villiers, and I look up to him since I was a youngster and love the way he played and how he goes about his game. Then also Sachin Tendulkar always idolised him because of the way he plays and the way he lives about his motos and how he goes about the things in life. I also like Virat Kohli and as a bowler Shane Warne, I look up to him because I'm also a leg spinner so that's why."
Coming back to the game, Mumbai are currently 120 for 3 after 14 overs against Lucknow. Rohit Sharma and Co. need 80 runs in the final 6 overs to register their first win of the season.
