India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has praised Ravichandran Ashwin after the latter's clinical performance against Australia in the second ODI in Indore. Ashwin had made a comeback in the 50-over format after the dreaded 2017 Champions Trophy final. In the game, the Men In Blue were thrashed by 180 runs by Pakistan. After this, the selectors and the team management decided to move on from Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

They were replaced by Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav and both leggies became a force in the team. A few months ahead of the 2019 World Cup, Jadeja made his comeback while Ashwin played a few T20Is including T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022. In the ongoing three-match ODI series against Australia, both Ashwin and Jadeja have been the main spinners just like Test team so far.

In the first game, the former took only one wicket and bowled well only in patches. The two-time World Champion did well in the second ODI. He took three wickets and spun a web around the Kangaroos. His spell ensured that the visitors were reduced to 101/5 from 89/2. The five-time ODI World Cup winners failed to recover from this and lost the game by 99 runs (DLS method).

Meanwhile, after the game, Chahal posted an appreciation tweet for Ashwin.

Is Yuzvendra Chahal replaced by Ravichandran Ashwin?

Meanwhile, Chahal has been out of the format since January this year. He played the format in an ODI game against New Zealand. Against Australia, Kuldeep Yadav played the series. Ahead of the Asia Cup 2023, the Rajasthan Royals player in the IPL was dropped from the side.

His batting weakness was cited as the reason for his ouster. For the ODI World Cup 2023, he continues to miss out unless unforeseen circumstances force the team to consider him.
