Indian T20 League (ITL) franchise Hyderabad has released the list of their coaching staff for the 15th edition of the ITL. Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn has been roped in as the pace bowling coach. Tom Moody will be the head coach of the team, while Brian Lara will be strategic Advisor and batting coach. Former Australia batter Simon Katich will take charge as the assistant coach. Moody was the team's head coach from 2013-2019. However, he was promoted as the Director of Cricket for Hyderabad, with Trevor Bayliss taking up the head coach role. However, Moody has returned to the helm after team's dismal show in last season. Spin Legend Muttiah Muralitharan will also join the team as spin bowling coach.
Hyderabad experienced a horrific outing in the last season. They also indulged in a controversy involving David Warner. The franchise sacked Warner and named Kane Williamson as their skipper for the UAE leg of ITL. Ahead of the mega auction, they made a shocking call and didn't retain their ace spinner, Rashid Khan. Instead, they opted for Kane Williamson, Umran Malik and Abdul Samad.
Under the new coaching setup, the franchise will be looking to deliver a better performance. If reports are to be believed, the auction for the Indian T20 league will be held on February 12th and 13 in Bengaluru and it will be interesting to see which players the franchise put its money on.
Meanwhile, the next season of the Indian T20 League will be a 10 team event, with the addition of two new teams - Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Lucknow franchise has roped in former Zimbabwe batter Andy Flower as their head coach, while there are reports that KL Rahul and Rashid Khan are likely to play for the team in 2022.
