The 20-20 World Cup 2022 started with the opening match of the tournament between Namibia and Sri Lanka. In a shocking happening for everyone in the cricketing fraternity, Namibia outmuscled the Sri Lankan team by a massive margin of 55 runs to win the first match in an amazing style.
Following this upset, the fans took to social media, and very soon, it was flooded with congratulatory posts for the Namibian team. But among all this, some of the social media users happened to find a link between Sri Lanka’s defeat and the former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir is known for his infamous ability to jinx the teams and players. Subsequently, he recently hailed the Islanders teams before their first match of the tournament against Namibia.
The 41-year-old went on to say that the Sri Lankan teams are on a winning run since they won the Asia Cup title and could be a threat to the Indians and other teams as well in the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
“Sri Lanka, because of the kind of success they have had at the Asia Cup. The way they are playing, the way they are probably peaking at the right time. And with Chameera and Lahiru Kumara coming in, they probably got most of their places covered. They are going to be a threat and so they are going to take a lot of confidence into the T20 World Cup,” said Gambhir to Star Sports.
Fans took no time in taking a dig at Gautam Gambhir on his jinxing capacity of cursing any team or individual with praise.
Here’s how fans reacted to Gautam Gambhir’s statement followed by Sri Lanka’s defeat:
