Despite Parag's domestic success, critics have persisted, particularly regarding his performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, Ashwin defended the 22-year-old, emphasising that he is still a young player evolving in the cricketing realm.

In a candid discussion on his YouTube channel, Ashwin addressed the critiques directed at Parag, stating, "We frequently criticise Riyan Parag as an overhyped cricketer after just seeing his IPL performances. We forget that he's a youngster sometimes. He is still a young player who is getting better."

Highlighting Parag's recent contributions, Ashwin commended his performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. Particularly praising Parag's outstanding innings in the Ranji Trophy, where he scored a magnificent 155 runs from 87 balls against Chattisgarh, Ashwin noted that Parag became the second-fastest centurion in Ranji Trophy history.

Ashwin underlined the circumstances that led to Riyan Parag's impressive knock, stating, "He didn't play for the sake of playing T20 cricket. He was pushed into that situation. All the batters on the other end fell like flies, and he took charge of his own hands and played such a knock."

While acknowledging Parag's IPL stats, where he has played 54 matches, accumulating 600 runs with an average of 16.22 and two half-centuries, Ravichandran Ashwin urged cricket enthusiasts to recognise the young player's evolving potential rather than hastily dismissing him based on early IPL performances. With Ashwin's words serving as a testament to Parag's growth, the young cricketer looks poised to overcome his critics and make a lasting impact in the world of cricket.
