Cricket Australia (CA) has launched an investigation into the reported misdemeanor incident involving their star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. According to reports, Maxwell had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance on Friday (January 19) after he fell and lost consciousness after partying at a pub in Adelaide. However, it is not clear what exactly led to his hospitalisation.

Meanwhile, several reports suggest that Maxwell was only there for a short period at the facility and did not spend the night there. Notably, former Australia pacer Brett Lee was performing with his band Six and Out. The 35-year-old is expected to be questioned by the Australian Cricket Board to know the real cause of the incident.

Hours before Maxwell's shocking news broke, he was dropped from the ODI squad for the three-match series against West Indies. However, CA said in a statement that this was purely coincidental and the spin all-rounder was rested as part of workload management. Maxwell is expected to return for the T20I series which will take place after the 50-over competition.

"Cricket Australia is aware of an incident involving Glenn Maxwell in Adelaide at the weekend and is seeking further information. It is not related to him being replaced in the ODI squad, a decision that was made following the BBL and based on his individual management plan. Maxwell is expected to return for the T20 series," CA said in a statement.

What does the Australian skipper have to say about the incident?

Pat Cummins was asked about the incident involving his teammate in a press conference ahead of the second Test against the Caribbean side. The 2023 ODI World Cup-winning skipper said Maxwell was not on tour with the Australian cricket team and he has to own the decisions that he made that night.

"We're all adults, been part of night outings, you have got to make your own decisions. I suppose in this actual incident, he was obviously not on tour with the Australians, he was over there for a private event, he was not with the cricket team. So, it is a little bit different. Absolutely, any decision that you make, you have got to own it and be comfortable with it," Cummins said.
