'Clinical performance' - Fans react as Trinbago Knight Riders trump Guyana Amazon Warriors by 7 wickets to enter CPL 2023 final

Chadwick Walton scored an unbeaten 80 to help TKR win a run chase in a spanking fashion and advance to the CPL 2023 final.

Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) squared off in Qualifier 1 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). TKR won the toss and chose to field. Saim Ayub got his side off to a decent start and scored 49 off 39 balls with four fours and one six. Odean Smith was the first wicket to fall at 53.

Other than Azam Khan who scored 36 off 27 balls with three fours and one six. Other than the Pakistan wicketkeeper batter the others were just not up to the task. The likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, Shai Hope and Dwaine Pretorious could not convert their starts. GAW scored just 166-7 in their 20 overs. For TKR, Terrance Hinds and Waqar Salamkheil picked up 2-32 and 2028 in their four overs respectively.

Qualifier 2 will be played between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs

Ali Khan and Akeal Hosein took a wicket in their respective spells. In the run chase, TKR chased it down in a canter as Chadwick Walton smashed the GAW bowlers all over the field for fun. The attacking opener cracked an unbeaten 80 off 57 balls with six fours and four sixes. While Walton took control of the TKR innings there were also contributions from the other batters.

Nicholas Pooran hit   33 off 24 balls with two fours and two sixes. TKR skipper Kieron Pollard made a quickfire 23 off 15 balls with two fours and one six. Mark Deyal also chipped in with 15 off 11 balls at the top with one four and one six. In the end, TKR won by 7 wickets and made their way to the final.

TKR have been one of the most consistent sides in CPL history and won a lot of titles as Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel and also as TKR. The Qualifier 2 will take place between Jamaica Tallawahs  (JT) and GAW. The final of the CPL will take place on 25 September which gives TKR an extra day of rest. The Qualifier 2 will take place on 23 September.
