Shubman Gill recently played in the three-match ODI series against Australia. Before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, many former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev said that Gill should get a chance as an opener ahead of KL Rahul. But, the team management showed faith in Rahul and played him in the first two matches.

Seeing his failure, team India finally selected him in the last two matches. In the last Test, he also smashed a terrific century in Ahmedabad and justified his selection in the playing XI. Then, he got the opportunity in the ODI series. But, he failed to score big in all three matches and that left all his fans sad.

Speaking of his form, he scored just 57 runs in three ODIs against the Aussies. Before this series, he was in exceptional form in the white-ball formats. In the ODI series at home, he scored centuries and a double century. Gill also smashed his maiden T20I ton. So, all fans were expecting to see him in such terrific form in the ODI series against the Aussies also. But, he failed miserably to perform. Now, he will be seen in action again in the Indian T20 League 2023 for the Gujarat franchise. In the last edition, he was an instrumental part of their title-winning campaign.

However, the team director of the Gujarat franchise, Vikram Solanki said that Gill can be a leader in the future. During a virtual media session with reporters, Solanki said: “Do I think that Shubman will be a leader in the future? Yes absolutely, but no decision has been made about that as yet. He has leadership qualities and is very mature who has an abundant amount of talent. He has a very smart cricketing brain and we will continue to have conversations with Shubman and invite his opinion on every decision we make. Shubman adapted the leadership role last year, by his conduct, by the way he goes about, with his professional attitude towards the game.”
