The final of the World Test Championship (WTC) is going on at the Oval between India and Australia. Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked Australia to bat first. They put up 469 runs on the board in the first innings. But, in reply, India were in trouble by losing four wickets for 71 runs.
Then, Ajinkya Rahane came up with a solid knock with some gritty shots. Rahane was making a comeback after playing his last Test for India in January 2022 in the Test series in South Africa. After that, he had a good domestic season by scoring 634 runs in 11 innings at an average of 57.64, including two centuries for Mumbai during the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy.
Ajinkya Rahane scored 89 runs off 129 balls
After that, he had an impressive IPL 202 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and scored 326 runs in 14 games, at an average of 32.60 and a strike rate of 172.49. Rahane also smashed two fifties. Rahane basically replaced injured Shreyas Iyer in the squad. So, all eyes were on him when he came out to bat. First, he put up a partnership of 71 runs for the fifth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja. Thus, he finished day two by remaining not out on 29 runs off 71 balls. On day three, he came out to bat along with KS Bharat. But, Bharat got out and then, Shardul Thakur came out to bat.
Then, they both remained not out as India added 109 runs in the morning session by losing only one wicket. Rahane and Shardul put up a partnership of 108* runs in that season and took India to 260 runs for six wickets. The veteran batter was on 89* runs off 122 balls while Shardul was on 36* runs off 83 balls. But, after lunch, he failed to add more runs as Cameron Green took a splendid catch to dismiss him. Pat Cummins had the last laugh. Rahane smashed 11 fours and one six throughout his innings.
Here is how fans have reacted to the knock from Ajinkya Rahane:
