On 18 August 2023, the three-match T20I series began between India and Ireland as the first match took place in Dublin. All eyes were on Jasprit Bumrah as he was making a comeback after a long injury setback and he was the skipper of the side as well. Speaking of the match, Prasidh Krishna and Rinku Singh were given their debut caps.
Bumrah won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, India’s bowlers were on fire as Bumrah struck twice in the first over of the innings only. Then, Ravi Bishnoi and Prasidh Krishna struck as the home team scored just 30 runs in the first six overs for four wickets. Then, Curtis Campher scored 39 runs off 33 balls, including three fours and one six.
India defeated Ireland by two runs as per the DLS par score
For the seventh wicket, Ireland managed a 57-run partnership as Barry McCarthy was the lone warrior for his team. He remained not out on 51 runs off 33 balls as he smashed four fours and four sixes. Thus, the home team scored 139 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. Ravi Bishnoi, Krishna, and Bumrah took two wickets each while Arshdeep Singh grabbed one wicket. In reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad came out to open the innings.
They managed a solid start but they lost the wicket of Jaiswal on the second delivery of the seventh over. He scored 24 runs off 23 balls, including three fours and one six. Tilak Varma also got out on the next ball and then, Sanju Samson came out to the middle to accompany Gaikwad. But, after 6.5 overs, heavy rain came and the play got paused. At that time, India were two runs ahead as per the DLS method and hence, the Men in Blue were declared the winner. They scored 47 runs for two wickets in 6.5 overs. Thus, they took a 1-0 lead and now, the second game is going to happen at the same venue on 20 August.
Here is how fans have reacted:
It is unfair to announce the winner so early using dls.
