On 8 August 2023, Team India locked horns with West Indies in the third game of the ongoing five-match T20I series in Providence. The home came to this clash after winning the first two games. Hence, they were looking for another win to seal the series with two more games to go. While the Men in Blue were looking for a win to keep themselves alive.

Speaking of the match, Yashasvi Jaiswal was given a debut in the shortest format of the game while Kuldeep Yadav made a comeback in the playing XI after missing the last game. WI skipper, Rovman Powell won the toss and opted to bat first. While batting first, they managed a solid start, courtesy of Brandon King and Kyle Mayers. 

India defeated West Indies by 7 wickets

Their first wickets fell on 55 runs in 7.4 overs. King scored a runner-ball 42 runs while Mayers scored 25 runs off 20 balls. Nicholas Pooran scored 20 runs off 12 balls but it was Rovman who remained not out on 40* runs off 19 balls. Including one four and three sixes. Thus, they finally managed to score 159 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the star as he took three wickets for 28 runs in four overs. Along with him, both Mukesh Kumar and Axar Patel grabbed one wicket each. For the chase, debutant Jaiswal came out to open the innings along with Shubman Gill.

But, the Southpaw batter failed to have a good start to his T20I career as he got out on just one run off two balls. Gill failed also as he scored just six runs off 11 balls. Then, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma started to play some delightful shots to steady the innings. After seven overs, they were on 69 runs for two wickets. They put up an 87-run partnership for the third wicket. Suryakumar scored 83 runs off 44 balls, including 10 fours and four sixes. Finally, Tilak remained not out on 49* runs and skipper, Hardik remained unbeaten on 20* runs as they chased down the target with ease in 17.5 overs with seven wickets in hand. With this win, they managed to keep the series alive.
